MUSIC OF THE SHADOWS

Opera Aperta Mina Museum

On Saturday, June 27, at 23:59, the 2026 Opera Aperta International Festival presents MUSIC OF THE SHADOWS, a concert performed by the Oradea State Philharmonic Orchestra at MINA Cluj.

The event features a program built around works that explore the themes of death, loss, and separation from various musical perspectives. The repertoire brings together orchestral and vocal-symphonic pieces by Edward Elgar, Gustav Mahler, Samuel Barber, Modest Mussorgsky, and Jean Sibelius, in a meditative and dramatic musical journey.

The concert will be conducted by Andrej Vesel, a guest from Croatia, and the evening’s soloist will be baritone Florin Estefan. The program includes Sospiri, Op. 70, by Edward Elgar; the Kindertotenlieder cycle by Gustav Mahler; Adagio for Strings, Op. 11, by Samuel Barber; Songs and Dances of Death by Modest Mussorgsky; and The Death of Mélisande from the Pelléas et Mélisande Suite, Op. 46, by Jean Sibelius.

The event has no intermission and ends around 1:15 a.m.
